SPORTSMANSHIP SHOWN
SOUTHLAND UNION ILVXITLLV SillKLh's' Loss DUNEDIN. this day. The feeling in football circles in Dunedin, as expressed by prominent members of the Otago Union, is that while it was no doubt something of a wrench for Southland to part with the Ranfurly Shield after having held it for so short a period, ttie trophy was handed over to Otago after a match played in a very line spirit, with a sporting gesture of the utmo ; ;l goodwill. Nevertheless, had Southland decidt-J to enter a challenge on the occasion -if the return match, Otago would have been quite ready and willing to accept it. as it was felt that Southland was quite entitled to endeavour to regain the shield and Otago would not have stocd in the way of that desire.
