JAPANESE MIGRANTS
STATEMENT BY BISHOP
[DEALS IX CHRISTIANITY
The remarks of the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, referring to the introduction of 5,000,000 Japanese into New Zealand. made in his charge to the Waikato Diocesan. Eynod on July 11. were again referred to by him in his monthly letter in the current issue of the Waikato Diocesan Magazine.
The bishop's statement is as follows:—"The part of my charge which dealt with the 'peaceable' methods of defence is no more than the ultimate aim of Catholic Christianity. 'That they may be cne' was part of Our Lord's high-priestly prayer. Unity to mean anything has to be far more than mere words.
"Of course, the Christian's ideal will be dubbed -foolish—;t always has been —and impractical. So it is. until we try it. Consider the abolition of the slave trade, and the various attempts to give every man a 'fair' deal."
