WAIVE PRIVILEGE
CHALLENGE TO MINISTER
ISSUE OF LIBEL SUIT
CRITICISM OF WOMAN
LETTER TO MR. SEMPLE
(Per Trans Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day
Mrs. E. L. Stone has written to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. It. Semple, regarding his attack in Parliament, in which he said she is not fit to 'be at large and that she was too vile a character to be called a woman.
Saying she had been told she cannot bring a libel suit against an M.P. for anything said in Parliament, she challenges him to waive his Parliamentary previlege and consent to her issuing a libel suit. "I ask you to give me that opportunity, and thus show the public that Parliament has not become a castle for cowards, who will say under cover of privilege what they would not dare to say without that protection," says Mrs. Stone.
