TRYING TRIP
15 HOURS FROM GISBORNE MOTORISTS' EXPERIENCE A party of Hastings sportsmen who attended the Poverty Bay race meeting in Gisborne last week had a trying experience upon their return journey at Hastings overnight, the trip in the car taking close on 15 hours owing to the bad state of the roads. "Never again will I come back from Gisborne under such weather conditions as prevailed," declared one member of the party in Hastings. "Wa left immediately before the last race, and whether the car 'brought us home or whether we brought the car home is an open question. Anyway, it was shortly 'before 4 p.m. when we left and the Taradalc town clock showed G.lO a.m. when we passed it."
"I have done in a pair of trousers, as well as a good pair of shoes," ho added. "I do not feel as though I will ever get warm again, as even after two stiff drinks, three cups of steaming hot coffee and a hot bath, I still feel cold to the very bone. We had to halt a score or more of times to push the car through slush and small slips and running waters."
