R.A.F. COMMISSION
PILOT-OFFICER WATTS FORMER GISBORNE BOY Now on his way to the United Kingdom to take up a commission in the Royal Air Force, Pilot-Officer Jack Watts, late of the Rangitikei district, will carry with him the interest of many Gisborne people who were acquainted with him during his bovhood residence here. Pilot-Officer Watts, who is a son of Mr. A. E. Watts, now proprietor of a private hotel in Marton, received his early education at the Gisborne Central School, and later spent some time in Tokomaru Bay,
where his parents were in business. The family later moved to the Rangitikei district, where Mr. Jack Watts was able to take up flying at an unusually early age, qualifying rapidly for solo work, and obtaining his A endorsed license at 17 years. He had 90 hours' flying to his credit when he joined the New Zealand Territorial Air Force. He was stationed first at Auckland, land later at Wigrarh, Canterbury. Now 20 years of age, Pilot-Officer Watts is launched on a career for which he has had ambitions since his early teens. He is to report at Uxbridge on arrival in the United Kingdom, and will pass through the standard courses of instruction as a preliminary to his attachment to a squadron.
