GISBORNE LODGE MEETING UOUNUII'j OF StK'IKTIKS The Manchester Unity Oddfellows, Loyal Gisborne Lodge, 0087, held its fortnightly meeting last night, Bro. T. , ,!. Dunstan, P. 0., presidfng in the absence 01 the N.G., Sister S. E. ' Cousins, who was attending a lodge jubilee timet ion in Dannevirke. Millions of condolence wore passed with Bros, ['each and Steggail in the deaths of their wives. Welcomes were extended to the visitors, including Bro. T. Gedye, a member o'l the Gisborne lodge at present living in the Wairoa district. Two new members were initiated, Bros. F. L. Barker and W. Cox, P.G.s, acting as eonduclors. Bro. ,J. A. Vagg, P.G., presided at the organ. A letter from the lodge chemist stressed the need ot an increase in members' contributions for medical 3 supplies. It was decided to ask the chemist tor further information, and when this was received the matter would be gone into fully. The present constitution of the Gisborne friendly Societies' Council was Ui.scussed, and several members expressed the view that lodges were no; fcjiven true representation according io_ their numerical strength. Suggestions were made for a re-cstablish- ? inent oi the council on :i plan thai would make numerical f.trengSh a basis of representation, but no motion " was passed. Bro. T. A. Perreau, P.G., tendered his resignation as a representative on me Friendly .Societies' Council in view of his impending departure from the district. The resignation was accepted with regret, and Bro. Perreau was thanked lor hi.; past services. The secretary, Bro. C. 11. Ambridge, | P.D.G.M., reported that sickness and death had made a heavy dram on 1 the lodge funds since the beginning of the lodge year. During that period seven members had died, in addition to one widow and two wives of members. At the closu of the meeting supper was served, and members engaged in ping-pong practice in readiness for the tournament lor the Wallen Shield.
