UNION'S RUGBY SERIES ! SATURDAY'S AI/PER AT lONS I TOUR MANAGER REPORTS In order to allow players and patrons to listen in to the radio broadcast of the second Rugby test in Australia, it was decided yesterday afternoon, at the meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Rugby Union, to start the competitions early on Saturday afternoon. Match The difficulty of getting the representative team away on tour last Saturday was explained by Mr. Jcune, manager of the tour, in his report. Sickness had prevented live of the selected players from making the trip, and he had been assisted by Mr. If. Brown, who had given assistance in the arrangements and eventually tilled the position of centre-threequartor. The team did not arrive in Ruatoria until 1 p.m., and the ground was a "sea of mud" soon after the game started. The forwards played good Rugby, and their perfoirmance showed that I hoy were in splendid condition. .The exhibition by both learns was ex'ceptionally good under the conditions.. and the Coast fifteen deserved its win as a team more used to the conditions, The conduct ol the team was excellent on a trip that could be described its an unpleasant one from the point of view of the slate of the highway. The team had been extended every consideration by Mr. Burton at the Miuiiitahi Hotel. The team had to be congratulated on its loyal support under the conditions and its splendid showing. When thanking Mr. Jeune for his report, the chairman remarked that the necessity for the team staying overnight or travelling up to Ruatoria the night before would have to be considered before any future trip. The secretary was instructed to invite the Waikohu sub-union to lake part in a curtain-raiser match against the Poverty Bay colts on August 13, during the visit of the Coast, team.
