AWAPUNI SCHOOL
- COMMITTEE MEETING ATTENDANCE OF PUPILS At the monthly meeting of the Awapuni School Committee a report was received from the headmaster, Mr. C. G. Rigby, stating that the average attendance for the month was 92, out of a school roll number of 136. The prevailing sickness and bad weather was responsible for the large number Of absentees. The sandy nature of the school grounds had been a decided advantage, it was stated, for after the heavy rainfall of the past month the playgrounds were free from surface water. Home-work has been stopped in the elementary schools of Hove, Sussex. The idea is to encourage the children to take up useful hobbies, such as carpentry, needlework, reading and painting. special vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Chas. Ivess for donating and planting native trees and shrubs in the school grounds. It was reported that Miss E. M. Carr had been appointed to the vacancy on the staff, taking up het duties on September 5.
