GALLOPING SEASON OVER PTVE MILLIONS Once again the predominant position of the Auckland district in racing is strikingly emphasised in the totalisator figures for the 1937-38 galloping season just closed. The sum put through the totalisators was £5,289,415 10s, of which .£1,919,290 10s was credited to Auckland district clubs. Wellington district is second and Canterbury third. Following ' is a list of the districts, with the number of clubs, including hunt clubs, under their jurisdiction, the number of days of racing and the totalisator turnovers: —
At the end of the 1930-37 season, the totalisator returns showed a turnover at galloping meetings of £4,007,069 10s, so that the increase for the ensuing 12 months was £082,340, or about 12£ per cent. For the individual districts, tire totals for the 1936-37 season were as under:—Auckland, £1,677,512 10s; Wellington, £746,927 10s: Canterbury, £047,403; Wanganui, £427,272; Hawke's Bay. £282,451; Dunedin, £264,773; Southland, £247,032 10s; Taranaki, £220,152; and Greymouth, £85,036.
