TRAFFIC INTERRUPTED
(Per Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, this day
The engine of a goods train was buried by a slip and 12 wagons were derailed'while travelling to Auckland between Paeroa and Waihi at 3 o'clock this morning. The engine crew and the guard escaped injury, and no serious damage was done. Traffic will be held up at least until the middle of the afternoon.
The train ran into a slip from a very high bank. When it pulled up, some trucks were on either side of the slip. A second slip came down an c | buried the engine. The line may be .sufficiently clear to allow the 2.20 p.m. Thames express through. Meanwhile, trains, passengers and mails are being transferred by road. Slips have occurred on the roads in the vicinity. Only yesterday the Waihi-Paeroa section of the main highway was reopened for traffic following numerous slips as a result of Tuesday night's deluge.
