Nelson, with a cloudless day, is celebrating the first Monday in August. . The holidav was instituted in the earliest days'by the first settlers following the" English bank holiday. It then lapsed, but was revived in the 'eighties as a half-holiday and, in later years, was made a whole holiday. Actually, the banks are among the few institutions which do not observe the holiday.
