AGREEMENT UNLIKELY

BRITAIN AND AMERICA POLITICAL CONSIDER A - TI'ONS LONDON, .July 22 Well-informed Americans believe that there is not the slightest hope of an Anglo-American trade agreement being signed before November elections in the United States. It is said that however much Washington may desire to assist Great Britain to conclude an agreement in order to enable an Anglo-Australian agreement to be achieved, American political considerations must carefully be weighed. Sir Auckland Geddes, presiding at a meeting of the Monks Investment Trust observed that it was not easy to assess the future business prospects of the United States. He said: “There is no sign that leading industrialists are prepared to accept the New Deal. The November elections' are likely to be preceded by a bitter campaign.”
