GARDENING CIRCLE MEETS (Herald Correspondent) The Patutahi Gardening Circle met in the Patutahi Hall last Wednesday. A vote of condolence was moved by the convener, Mrs. R. R. Renner, with the relatives of the late Mrs. Peach, who was an active member of the local institute and circles, members standing in silence. The roll call, "Garden Observations," brought forward many helpful hints. Garden activities for the month were read. Mrs. J. Johnstone gave an address on the wild flowers of England, Scotland and oilier countries which she visited on her tour. Mrs. Renner on behalf of the circle, thanked Mrs. Johnstone for her interesting talk. The competitions resulted: —Cream jug of mixed flowers. —Mrs. R. J. Eade, 1 and 3; Mrs. G. Scragg, 2. Speciman bloom. —Mrs. E. R. Renner, !. Mrs. R. J. Eade. 2; Mrs. G. Scragg, Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Eade and Jones. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Snowden, Dargaville. and Mr. T. 11. Daulton, Bulolo. New Guinea, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Jobson, "Naurea" left on Saturday on their return journey. Miss Joan Doherty, of the stall' of the New Plymouth Hospital, is spending her annual leave at her home in Patutahi. --Mrs. A. Doherty is a patient, in the Cook Hospital.—Mrs. T. E. Peel is in Wellington, where she represented the Patutahi Women's Institute at the Dominion conference. The Patutahi Women's Institute will celebrate its tenth birthday on Wednesday in the Patutahi Hall. A short meeting will be held before the party, commencing at 1 p.m., to enable members to hear the delegate's report. The attendance at the funeral of the late Mrs. C. Peach, which took place on Friday afternoon at the Patutahi Cemetery. constituted a worthy tribute to the esteem in which the deceased was held. A wealth of floral emblems further testified to the sense of loss which her death occasioned. The services at the graveside and at the house were conducted by the Rev, R. Spence.
