COUNTY COMPETITIONS RAIN AFFECTS PLAY GOOD BATTING PIGURES (Else. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. 9 a.m., August I.) LONDON. July 31. Rain interfered with some of the county cricket matches which were concluded yesterday, but some good scores were registered nevertheless. The best score of the round was 178 1 by Gibbons, for Worcester, who easily defeated Surrey. Perks taking seven wickets for 58 and five for 87. Batting for Notts Hardslaff made 102. and in the same match Hammond scored 111. Berry made 172 for Leivester, who had a first innings victory over Sussex. Bowling for Sir Jttlien Calm's eleven against Glamorgan, Walsh took nine wickets tor 101 rims. Of Glamorgan's total of 210, Dyson made 110 not out. Matches commenced on Wednesday resulted as follows: — Worcester in the first innings made 406 for nine and declared (Gibbons 178. Howorth 100). In the second they made seven without loss. Surrey, in the first made 149 (Perks seven for 58), and followed on to make 261 (Perks five for 87). Worcester won by 10 wickets. Warwick in the first put on 238 for
nine and declared. In the second they made 123 (Herman six for 53). Hampshire in the first took seven for 423 and declared (McCorkell 13G). Hampshire won by an innings and 62 runs. Essex in the first made 300 (Nichols 98.) Lancashire, in the first made 118 (Nichols five for 85. Essex won on the first innings. Sussex, in the first compiled 384 (H. Parks 87, James Langridge 93). Leicester, in the first lost eight for 403 (Berry 172, Watson 81). Leicester won on the first innings. Notts in the first made 332 (Hardstaff 162). In the second they lost two for 91. Gloucester, in the first mide 277 (Hammond 111). Notts won on the first innings. Northants' first produced 293 and the second 155 (Verity five for 52). Yorkshire, in the first made 311, and in the second lost four for 128. Yorkshire won by six wickets. Sir Julien Cahn's eleven, in the first made 215 (Jackson 99; Matthews five for 39). In the second they were out for 69 (W. Jones three for 11). Glamorgan, in the first scored 210 'Dyson, not out, 110; Walsh nine for 101). In the second they took four for 75. Glamorgan won by six wickets.
