WAIROA POLICE COURT MONTHLY SITTING MANY TRAFFIC OFFENCES (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A lengthy list of cases was heard at the monthly sitting of the Wairoa Police Court yesterday, Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., presided. Bob Brown was charged with stealing at Opoutama a silver wristlet watch and two pairs of sun glasses, to a total value of £2 4s, the property of Marjorie Jeannie McNab. The accused pleaded guilty and was admitted to probation for 12 months. Charged with stealing at Kopuawhara a shirt valued at 14s Gd, the property of John Kerr O’Hara, Sam Meihana pleaded not guilty. He was represented by Mr. 11. R. Bannister and the charge was dismissed. Martin Joe was charged with behaving in an offensive manner at Mohaka within view of the main Wairoa-Napier road. The accused was convicted and fined £1 and costs. Dave Munro, a prohibited person, for procuring liquor, was fined £3 and costs. Licensing Cases Hei Ilei Pautawa was charged with entering the licensed premises of the Wairoa Hotel during the currency of a prohibition order and also with procuring liquor during the currency of the order. He was fined £1 and costs on each charge. Sam Goodnight was charged with supplying a female Maori with liquor. He was further charged with assisting in the supply of liquor to a Maori for consumption off licensed premises. The defendant was convicted on both charges. On the former he was convicted and fined £lO and on the other charge was convicted and fined £2. Reginald Evan Bennett, charged with having been found on the licensed premises of the Ferry Hotel after hours, was fined £1 and costs. On a similar charge, John McGregor was fined £1 and costs. On a charge of riding a bicycle without a light, Walter McGregor was fined 5s and costs. Frederick McKain was charged with driving a motor car on the Wai-roa-Napier main highway while not being the holder of a driver’s license. He was fined 5s and costs. Charged with failing to keep to the left of the roadway, Alexander Shop, herd was fined £1 and costs. . On a charge of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, Robert John Scott was fined 5s and costs. Oh a further charge of driving a motor car without the assigned number plates affixed, he was fined £1 and costs. Charged with riding a bicycle in Carroll street without a light, Albert Aiken was fined 5s and costs. Colin Aspden was charged with driving a motor car along Ruataniwha road at a speed which, having regard to the circumstances, might have been dangerous to the public. He was fined £2 and costs. Heavy Traffic Offences Geoffrey Seymour Beale was charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle on the main highway at Mohaka without a heavy traffic license. He was further charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle without a heavy traffic license. The defendant was lined £2 and costs on each charge. Charged with operating 'a heavy motor vehicle on the GisborncNapier main highway at a speed exceeding 25 miles per hour, Evan Critchley Brcnkley was fined £1 and costs. Ahipene Paul was fined 5s and costs for riding a bicycle without a light. On similar charge, Leslie Somerfield was fined 5s and costs. For driving a delivery van on the Wairoa-Morere main highway without a driver’s license, Sid Gemmell was convicted and fined 5s and costs. Robert William Gourlay was charged with driving a motor-cycle on the Frasertown-Wairoa main highway, without a driver’s license. The defendant was fined 5s and costs. Charged with driving a motor car on the main highway without a driver’s license, William Arthur Grant was fined 5s and costs. On a further charge, with having used a motor car on the main highway while a license to use had not been issued he was fined £1 and costs. For driving a rnotor-cycle without a driver’s license, David Alexander Hamill was fined 5s and costs. On a charge of driving a motor car on the Wairoa-Frasertown State highway without carrying a warrant of fitness, Trevor Terence Higgs was fined iOs and costs. On similar charges Robert Johnson, Leah Kent, and James Meagher were each fined 10s and costs. Unlicensed Vehicles
Ronald McDonald was charged with using a motor car without having the assigned number plates affixed. He was further charged with driving a motor car on Marine parade without a driver’s license. The defendant pleaded guilty to both charges. On flm first charge he was fined 10s and costs, and on the other count was r, ned 5s and costs. Charged with using an unlicensed motor car on the main highway. Rang! Mitchell was fined £1 and costs. On a charge of driving a motor car without a driver’s license the defendant was fined 5s and costs. Ilenare Rarere, Thomas Smith, Robert Taylor, Willia m Thompson and Ernest Vaughan were all charged with driving a motor car on the main highway without being the holders of a current driver’s license. Each was fined 5s rind costs. Ernest Vaughan was further charged with driving an unregistered motor car on the main highway. On this count the defendant was lined 5s and costs. Charged with driving an unregistered motor car on the Wairoa-Fras-ertown road, John Walker was fined £1 and costs. The defendant was further charged with driving while not being the holder of a current driver’s license. On 1 his charge lie was fined 5s and costs. Charged with driving a motor car while not being the holder of a current driver’s license, Mo Walker was fined 5s and costs. On a similar similar charge Hoani Whaangi was fined 5s and costs. Unlicensed Radios For having unlicensed wireless sets the following were dealt with: —Cecil
Noel l)oig, lined 10s and costs; Bunny Lemuel, fined >l2 10s and costs; Ha Woodbine Pomnre, ordered to pay costs only; Charles Cecil Pqy/.er, fined 10s and costs; Jack Puna, fined 15s and costs; and Kate Walker, fined 15s and costs. Liquor After Hours Caught corning from the right-of-way of the Wairoa Hotel on Sunday June 19, with three bottles of beer in his possession, William Moroney told Sergeant D. Clark that he had purchased them from the licensee of the hotel, George Williamson. He pleaded guilty to a charge of bein''
on licensed premises after hours and was convicted and ordered to pay costs only. The licensee, for whom Mr. F. 11. Jones appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours, but after the evidence had been heard he was convicted and fined £2 and costs.
