CANADIAN BASE
ROYAL AIR FORCE PLANS PRODUCTION OF PLANES TRAINING UP PILOTS MANNING 5000 MACHINES T.'l. Copyright-—l'niO’il Press Assn.) (Reed. July 11, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 8. The possibility of the establishment in Canada of a huge supply and training base for the British Royal Air Force in order to remove a great section of military aviation from England's geographical vulnerability is indicated with the disclosure that the British Air Ministry mission, on the recent visit, sought to induce American aircraft manufacturers to establish a Canadian plant on a guarantee to buy 1000 planes, says the New York Herald-Tribune. The plan is reported to be advanced sufficiently in diplomatic and militai.s discussions that the expenditure o! £200,000,000 by Britain is regarded as probable. The undertaking would embrace not only a factory and aerodrome, but a training field that could be in constant use to develop pilots to man 5000 Royal Air Foice planes which would be permanently based in Canada.
