PING-PONG SEASON GOOD PLAY IN ToLRNEV (Herald Correspondent.) The opening of the ping-pong season took place in the Y.M.C.A. Hall at No. 3 Camp last Thursday night. It took the form of a tournament with sections for both men and ladies. Despite the cold, showery weather there was an attendance of over 40. In the men’s section there were 22 competitors, while the ladies’ competition drew 11 entries. Some of the games produced exciting finishes and revealed a high standard of play. The results in the closing stages were:— Men Third Round. —Cater d. Te Ngaio. 31-15; Kelly d. Fisk, 31-2(1; Ilornig d. Rogers, jun., 31-19. Fourth Round. —Kelly d. Ilornig, 31-19; Cater, a bye. Final.—-Cater d.‘ Kelly in two straight sets. Ladies Second Round.-—Miss D. Worsfold d. Mrs. McEnnis, 31-21; Mrs. Wahl d. Miss H. Pruden, 31-28; Miss 1. Rogers d. Mrs. ThOrburn, 31-2(1. Third Round. —Miss I. Rogers d. Miss D. Worslold, 31-25; Mrs. Wahl, a bye. Final. —Mrs. Wahl d. Miss 1. Rogers, two sets to one. This was a particularly hard-fought and exciting game. Mr. Parker, the president of the club, presented the prizes to the winners. He commented on the encouraging support given, which indicated that a successful season was ahead of the club.
