At to-day's meeting of the Gisborne notary Club, a vote of sympathy with Rotarian G. B. Edvnuds in the death of bis father was passed. A motor ear owned by Mr. J E Mercer caught lire at the Oval at abolU 2.30 p.m. to-day and the fire brigade was summoned Ihe upholstery was found to be burning, but the blaze was quickly extinguished by the use of chemicals.
