ROBBED BY CHINESE * FORMER AUCKLAND MAN TRAGIC FATE IN MALAYA (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 27, 10 a.m.) SINGAPORE, June 25. A New Zealander, Mr. F. W. G. Dunsford, owner of the Tersang gold mines in Pahang State, was killed by Chinese robbers, who decamped with gold amalgam valued at £1250. Mr. Dunsford, according to the British United Press correspondent, was attacked with a shotgun and native knives. Mr. Dunsford was 58 years of age and was not married. He left New Zealand in 1008. He is believed to have been an Aucklander. He had been in Malaya for 25 years.

He put up a desperate struggle. Although wounded by gunshot, he returned the fire, but was struck down and hacked to death with daggers. A Chinese gardener who was attempting to aid his master was alsc killed.

An extensive hunt in the jungle is proceeding.

A solitary Chinese last Thursday attacked Mr. E. N. Betheras, Melbourne, manager of an Australian mine in Pahang State, and almost sliced off his ear. The assailant in this case was shot dead by Mr. Betheras, who, according to the British United Press correspondent, shot the Chinese in self-defence.
