Discussing tiro cost of stock transport by motor-lorry, Mr. Lawson Field, at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Sheepownors’ Union, commented upon the contract; between the loading and discharging rates for wool and livestock. In the case of wool, he said, the loading might take hours, and likewise on discharging at the store, the lorry was delayed while every bale was weighed and chocked, several lorries being held up at a time, in some cases. The* loading and unloading of livestock, however, could be carried out in short order, and some consideration should be given to Ihe stockowner on that account. Mr. Field thought that the wool firms should bo approached to improve the facilities at their stores for discharging wool, as that might entitle farmers to claim a reduction in freighting rates.
