Dash Board Clocks
It is customary in many modern cars to fit a clock into the lid of the small compartment provided on the left-hand side of the instrument board. In the cheaper models, this is an ordinary mechanical instrument, but in the more expensive makes, it is operated electrically. This position is chosen because it allows a symmetrical arrangement of the board, the clock generally matching the speedometer exactly. A point that apparently has been overlooked is that most owners have a habit of slamming the lid shut every time they have occasion to open it. This slamming is not going to benefit the clock very much, and those owners who have such a fitting in this lid are well advised to close it quietly, otherwise the mechanism of the clock will be shaken up, in ,a manner not conducive to reliability.
