Reports from China state that the Yellow River flood waters have entered the Sha River, a tributary of the Hwaf River, flowing east to west between the Yangtse and the Lunghai railway.
A new threat to ITankow has 'been made as a result of the landing of 6000 Japanese on the south bank of the Yangtse, near Tungliu, east of the Mataog boom. Heavy fighting continues. 1
The Chinese claim thiat their bombers set fire to three warships near Tungliu.
The Hongkong correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that Japanese warships concentrating on Hoihow are causing apprehension concerning an invasion of Hainan. The French authorities are watching closely. Ten French warships are standing by. Other reports state that a minor attempt at a landing on Hainan was repulsed. • A Shanghai message states that 100 Japanese sailors and marines were killed as a result of a Japanese launch striking a Chinese mine above Nanking.
Tolcio reports state that Japanese bombers damaged and caused the stranding of a Chinese ‘ minelayer above Nanking.

Police searched the office of the Sunday Herald in consequence of the editor’s refusal to divulge the name of the writer of the article alleging that Chinese girls between the ages of 14 and 21 years, mostly refugees from Canton, Swatow and Amoy, are being sold in a secret slave market at Hongkong for £8 to £l7. The Daily News has been informed by Mr. Leon Turrou. the ace agent of the Federal Investigation Bureau, who has resigned to write for a newspaper his experiences during the Nazi spy round-up, that despite their pleas of not guilty, the Government has signed confessions 'from the four accused, Gunther Rumrieh, a deserter from the United States Army; Johanna Hoffman, hairdresser on the liner Europa; Erich Glaser, a United States Army private, and O'tto Herman Voss.
The accused will be faced with their confessions during their trial on August 1.
