VOTE IN COMMONS SUPPORT TO CABINET UNEASINESS EVIDENT DRIFT INTO TWO CAMPS PROBLEM IN SPAIN (Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 25, 11 a.m.) LONDON, June 24. The Associated Press states that the Government’s majority in the House of Commons last evening when the motion of the Leader of the Opposition, Major C. R. Atllec, for the adjournment of the House was defeated by 275 votes to 141, was one of the smallest on a major issue during the present Parliament.

The division lists reveal that many Conservative members did not vote.

Uneasiness is spreading throughout the Government ranks as a result of the ceaseless and definite bombing of British ships in Spanish waters. Government members have no desire to harass the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, but they are divided into two camps.

One accepts Mr. Chamberlain’s policy that intervention would mean war and consoles itself with the reassurance that the ships enter Spanish waters at their own risk and the owners and crews are earning large profits.

The other is deeply distressed and anxious that Mr. Chamberlain should restore British prestige and discover an effective counter without risking war.
