Steady scoring and good finishes were the feature of the county cricket matches which were completed today. % The match between Yorkshire and Glamorgan provided a particularly keen contest, the champions taking a risk by declaring in the second with five wickets down for 68. They then proceeded to dismiss the Welshmen just in ’time, securing an outright win with a margin of only 12 runs. Smailcs took six wickets fbr 35 and eight lor 68 lor Yorkshire. Matches commenced on Wednesday resulted as follows: —

Kent in the first innings made 404 (Todd 118). In the second they made 99 without loss. Gloucester in the first innings scored 238 (Todd, fout for 49),’and followed on to make 262 (Neale 107). Kent won by 10 wickets.

Notts in the first put on 284 for eight and declared (Keeton 109, Gunn 125). Northants in the first made 128 (Jepson, four for 38), and followed on to make 151 (Voce, four for 40). Notts won by an innings and five runs.

Somerset’s first produced 125 (R. Smith, four for 37; P. Smith, four for 31). In the second they made 206 (Nicholls, seven for 79). Essex in the first scored 278 (Waterman 103). In the second they loss four for 54 (Buse, four for 21). Essex won by six wickets.

Lancashire in the first compiled 307 (Nutter not out 89). In the second they made 26 without loss. Worcester in the first made 100 (Pollard four for 42), and followed on to lose eight for 372 declared (Cooper 111, Gibbons 123). Lancashire won on the first innings. Glamorgan in the first made 179 (Smailes six for 35), and m the second 150 (Smailes eight for 68). Yorkshire won by 12 runs. Cambridge in the first made 330 and in the second 95 (Creese four for 14).
