ELEPHANTS’ LABOUR CODE

COLOMBO, May 7.

Elephants, the popular means of transportation in the State of Travancore, South India, have a labour code. A new code decrees they shall not walk more than 10 miles at a stretch. In processions, they must not work more than five hours without a rest, or for more than 12 hours a day.
