I A bull purchased for lOOgns. at the Aberdeen Angus sale in Hastings yesterday was for the Gisborne district. It was sold on account of Mr. T. May, Waipawa, to the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Gisborne, and was the second highest priced animal at the sale. The top price was llOgns. for a 20-monlh-old bull olfered on account of the estate of the late Mr. W. A. Mact'arlane and bought by Mr. ,1. F. Knight, Palmerston North. Only half of the total number offered was sold under the hammer, the average being about ,‘lOgns. Purchases for the Gisborne and vVniroa districts included the following:— T. Davey, Wairoa. —From C. G. Ncstor-Bayliss, 2(lgns; from T. May, Waipawa, 27gns and 37gns; from J. A. MacfaiTanc estate, Hastings, 23gns and oOgns. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Gisborne. —From T. There is also a keen inquiry for pullets of any breed. EGG PRICES UNCHANGED Egg prices in Gisborne remain unchanged at 2s (id per dozen, retail and 2s 2d to the producer. ‘CURSE OF SILVER POPLAR’ Power to check the spread of silver poplar, which has been desired by the New Brighton Borough Council for some years, has been taken by the council. The council took advantage of the recent addition of silver poplar to the schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act, and passed a motion formally declaring it a noxious weed. Cr. J. N. Clarke remarked that silver poplar might look very pretty, but to realise its effects it was necessary only to see •“’the curse of silver poplar on Jubilee avenue.” The Mayor, Mr. E. L. Smith, said that the council would not have power to order the clearing of pronertics.
