THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation.—An anti-cyclone still covers south-eastern Australia and extends towards the South Island. A rather shallow depression is centred north-east of Cape Maria Van Diemen, while another slight secondary is passing in the south. Forecast. —Winds moderate to strong south-easterlies about and north of Cook Strait and elsewhere, west to south-west, gale force probable in some exposed positions in the far north and north-east. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough north of Kaikoura and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman: Light to fresh south-easterly winds in the northern portion, and* south-west to west in the southern, with moderate to rather rough seas. Weather: Cloudy to overcast between Cook Strait and East Cape and in most of the Auckland province, with scattered rains and some heavy falls between Wairoa and East Cape, elsewhere, mainly fair to line, but with occasional showers in the far south-west and south. Temperatures: Cool. To-day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions were reported this morning between Castlepoint and East Cape, but blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light northerly breezes were reported south of Castlepoint and light, to moderate southerlies further south. The barometer 'had fallen during the weekend. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland 55 degrees, Tauranga 58, Opotiki GO, Easl Cape 59, Gisborne 54. and Wellington 51. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Midday Forecast General inference. —A depression moving in a south, south-easterly direction is centred approximately 200 miles north of East Cape. Meanwhile a shallow depression is moving on to southern New Zealand. Pressure remains high over south-eastern Australia. Forecast. Moderate to strong south-east to southerly winds. Weather: Cloudy to overcast, with] rain probable, more especially north] of Hawke’s Bay. Temperatures: Cool. Seas: Rather rough to rough.
