INCREASE IN LICENSES RISE OF 18 PER CENT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The number of radio receiving licenses in force at March 31 last was 285,007, representing an increase of 43,700, or 18 per cent, over®the corresponding figures a year ago.

The Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, explained last evening that the number of licenses in force at the present time represented 77.6 for every 100 households in the Dominion. “Statistics are not available upon which to make a comparison in similar terms with other countries, but it is possible to make a certain comparison on a population basis,” stiid the Minister. At September 30 last, the number of licenses in operation in Great Britain represented 17.8 per 100 of population, New Zealand being next with 17 per cent. Other countries with high percentages at that date were: Switzerland 16.66, Australia 14.4, Germany 12.4, Holland 11.8. The corresponding density in New Zealand has .since risen to 17.7 per cent."
