DAIRY FACTORY OUTPUTS
GISBORNE REDUCTIONS 1 POOR SEASON THROUGHOUT ) Dairy factories in Gisborne are expected to finish up the season with greatly reduced outputs, compared with the figures of 1936-37. The main reason for the smaller production has been the poor season from first to last. The spring was late, the delayed Hush did not develop as well as expected, and the early part of the autumn did not compensate for the production decline caused by the dry and hot summer, while the present wet spell has hastened the drying oil' of the herds. The Kia Ora Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, has experienced a 121 per cent decline in butter manufacture, and the secretary, Mr. J. H. Sunderland, stated yesterday that by the end of the season, which closed on 1 June 30, the output should be about ' 200 tons short of the 1779 tons produced in 1936-37. The final figure should be somewhere between 1550 1 and 1600 tons. ’ The Okitu Co-operative Dairy Com--1 pany, Limited, experienced its first ’ season under the zoning decisions, the • main effect of which was the loss of ; the Nuhaka supply to the Okitu fac- ; tory. This, combined with the bad i season, will have the effect of reducing the Okitu output considerably.
