TRUCKS DERAILED
TRACK TORN UP DRAGGED FOR A MILE MISHAP ON STRAIT DAMAGE TO POINTS EXPRESSES DELAYED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Almost a mile of railway track was damaged, sleepers splintered and siding points rendered useless when two trucks on a north-bound mixed tram left the rails about a mile south of Taupaki, 22 miles north-west of Auckland at 8.30 o'clock this morn-
Though the trucks were dragged by the train, the crew and passengers -were unaware of the accident until Taupaki was reached.
The cause of the accident, which occurred on a straight section of the rail, is unknown. The first wagon In leave the line was the fourth or fifth from the engine, being a 10ton truck carrying basic slag.
Apparently if jumped the rails and was dragged for nearly a mile with Ihe wheels ripping up the track. The next truck in line was also dragged oIT the rails. Both undercarriages and about, a mile of sleepers will have to be replaced.
Had the points not been damaged it would have been possible to sidetrack the main line trains, but repairs are not expected to be completed before this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Maungaturoto-Auckland express was delayed at Kumeu and the Whangarei-Auckland express at Wailakorei.
