LOAN FOR DEFENCE
AUSTRALIAN PROGRAMME FAVOUR AISLE RECEPTION (Reed. May 5, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 4. The firm of Nivisons is underwriting the £7,000,000 Commonwealth loan at 3J per cent, 1952-6, which is being issued at £99. The loan is for the Australian defence programme. Although Australian stocks were marked down on the exchange as a result of the new loan and dealers report little selling, the outlook is now more hopeful than yesterday. The loan met with a favourable reception.
