After 40 years' service in the Post and Telegraph Department Mr. M. H. Stitchbury, senior supervisor in the mail room of the Auckland Central Post Office, has retired on superannuation.
Sir Hugh Denison, chairman of directors of Associated Newspapers, Limited, Sydney, has arrived at Wellington, on his way to England, where he intends to spend eight or nine months. - He will sail by the Rangitane on May 11, accompanied by Lady Denison.
The latest Gazette contains notice of the transfer of Captain S. M. Porter, Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, to the reserve of officers. Captain Porter, who was formerly a Ciisborne resident, has been stationed latterly in W-aipukurau. A large and representative gathering of citizens in Nelson met Mr. William Lock on his eightieth birthday and congratulated him on his continued good health and his long record of public service, aggregating in var'ous positions 199 years.
