BASKETBALL

GRADING OF TEAMS A, B, AND G COMPETITIONS ASSOCIATION MEETS The grading of the teams for the competitions was the principal business done last evening at the meeting of the executive of the Poverty Bay Basketball Association, and the following report of the grading committee was adopted:— A Grade.—H.S.O.G. A, St. Mary’s A 1, St. Mary’s A 2, High School A, Tuis, Huia, Cash Stores, Woolworths, and Marathon.

B Grade.—H.S.O.G. B, High School B, St. Mary’s B 1, St. Mary’s B 2, Carnages, Mangapapa, Kaiti, and Harriers.

C Grade.—High School C, SI. Mary’s C 1, St. Mary’s C 2, St. Mary’s C 2, Caledonians, Weisley, and H.S.O.G. C.

It was decided to start the competitions series on Saturday, when it was expected that the Victoria Domain courts would be in readiness.

Permission was granted to the Poverty Bay Primary Schools’ Sports Association to use the courts during the season.

Mrs. M. Barry and Miss H. McIvnight were appointed to report on the Saturday afternoon matches during the season. Miss B. Sheen was appointed the delegate to the Referees’ Association. The following social committee was appointed l’or the season: —Mesdames Webb, Beale, Freebairn, Norberg, Barry, Brodie, Sommerville, Kerr, Wilson, Muirhead, Wallen, and Smith, and Misses C. Baty and M. Webb. A suggestion to hold a concert on Thursday, June 2, met with the approval of the executive and the delegates gave the impression that the function would have the wholehearted support of players. Each club would be called upon to provide at least one item on the programme, and an intimation to that effect would be required to be in the hands of the secretary not later than Thursday, May 2G. The arrangements for the concert were left in the charge of Misses C. Mead. C. Baty, M. Bloxham, N. Miller, I. Sommerville, and M. McKinley. It was decided to hold a mid-season games evening, the date to be arranged at the next meeting of the executive.

Those present were Miss I. Sommerville, chairman, Mesdames Barry, Norberg. Freebairn, and Webb, Misses N. Miller, H. McKnight. E. Cousins, B. Sheen, G. Henderson, T. Perston, M. McKinley, M. Young, T. Parfitt, L. Scott, C. Baty. Mr. G. H. Ansel!, and the hon. secretary, Miss M. Bloxham.
