CLAIMS BY ACTRESS
INJURIES AND LOSS MOTOR SMASH SEQUEL WAS GETTING £SOO WEEKLY (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 3, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 2. Claiming damages for personal injuries and consequential ‘ loss, the film actress, Merle Oberon sued Herbert Bundy, the Edgwareite AutoSales Company and also the motor combine and Sidney Digby in a complicated King’s Bench action.
Counsel said that Digby was driving Miss Oberon’s car when a motor driven by Bundy, who was employed by the Auto Sales Company collided with Miss Oberon’s car.
The Auto Sales Company contended that Bundy was momentarily in the employ of the motor combine as he was delivering a repaired car to it.
Digby was included with the defendants as Bundy blamed him for the collision in which Miss Oberon suffered concussion and was taken to a hospital, where she remained for three weeks. She was unable to work for six to seven weeks.
Miss Oberon was then receiving £SOO weekly as the principal female character in the film “I Claudius,” which had to be abandoned owing to the accident, Miss Oberon losing £2976. She also lost 43 days of her “film life’ during which, on the terms of her employment by London Film Productions, she could have earned £7600.
The evidence of Miss Oberon, who is in America, was taken on commission. She said she did not blame Digby for the accident.
