CARROLL MEMORIAL
WAIROA’S BIG HUI POST PON KM KNT UNLIKELY (Special to tiie Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The committee organising preparations for the opening of the Sir James Carroll Memorial meeting-house in Wairoa has issued a statement to the effect that no alteration in the date of the celebrations is likely. The date originally fixed will be adhered to unless unforeseen circumstances arise to prevent the gathering of the tribes.
Completion of buildings for the accommodation of a host of natives expected to reach Wairoa for the hui is being accelerated, and all arrangements are going forward with the object of holding the celebrations as announced some weeks ago in the Herald.
Towards the end of the month, the committee will review the situation finally, and if it is found that the main highways and other roads in the district, which were damaged in the recent floods, have not sufficiently consolidated to carry the traffic expected in connection with the gathering, it may be necessary to postpone for a few days the actual dedication of the new meeting-house.
There are many circumstances in connection with the organisation of the ceremonies which make it imperative that the opening should not be altered by more than a few days.
