Mr. Alan K. I. Purdie, late of the literary staff of the Times, Gisborne, has been appointed to a position on the Hawke’s Bay Herald-Tribune. Hastings. D“ will take up his new duties in a few days.
Messrs. G. 11. Sceats and G. J. Jeune, delegates of the Ba 1 Rugby Union, left Gisborne this morning for Wellington and will attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-rnorrow. At last evening’s biennial meeting of householders at the Gisborne Central School, congratulations were extended to Mr. C. G. Rigby on his promotion, and a vote of appreciation was passed also to Miss .Joan M. Lane for her services to the school. After 11 years on the staff, Mr. Rigby leaves at tli£ end of the term to lake over the headmastership of the Awapuni School. Miss Lane, who has been attached to Gisborne Central for 2$ years, joins the Wellington South School as an assistant after the present term
Miss Jan Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 11. B. Williams, Turihaua, who has been residing in England for some time, arrives in Gisborne to-morrow morning by plane. Her father, who judged at the Sydney Royal Show, met Miss Williams on her arrival at Melbourne by the Strathallan from Home, and they travelled to New Zealand by the Awatea. Mr. Williams, accompanied by his eldest son, Jack, from Christ’s College, is motoring home via Taihape. Miss Williams is being accompanied by her younger brother, William, who also has been attending Christ’s College, Christchurch. She proposes spending two or three months with her parents before returning to England.
