THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is centred east of the South Island. A depression is located south of Norfolk Island, but is tilling up. Pressure is high over all southern Australia. The forecast is for winds, sdiitheasterlies about Cook Strait and elsewhere east to north-east, moderate to strong north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, but elsewhere light to moderate. Seas in New Zealand wafers will be rough north of East Cape and rather rough elsewhere north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, slight to moderate thence southwards. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be moderate south-east to easterly winds and slight to moderate seas. The weather lor the most part will be cloudy to overcast in the eastern and far northern districts, with scattered showers or drizzling rain, but improving somewhat, fair elsewhere. Temperatures will be still moderate to warm To-day's North Island Report Overcast and unsettled conditions were reported throughout the North Island this morning and light tb moderate north-easterly breezes were general. The barometer had continued the rising movement. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland and Opotiki 7;i degrees, Tauranga, East Cape and Gisborne 70, Napier 08 and Wellington 09. Rough seas were reported at East Cape and in the Bay of Plenty; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Midday Forecast General Inference. —A slight disturbance is crossing the South Island, but pressure is high and gradients are slight over the whole Tasman Sea and the New Zealand area. Forecast. —Light to moderate and variable winds, with easterlies to north-easterlies predominating. Weather, mainly fair to cloudy and warm, but scalttred rain probable. Seas, slight to moderate.
