THE EGMONT SEAT
MR. WILKINSON TO STAND INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE (Per Press Association.) ELTHAM, last night. Any doubt as to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson’s position in regard to his contesting the Egmont seat the general election is now set at rest. Mr. A. J. Brennan, Mayor of Opunake, who was chairman of the meeting at Kaponga last week, has received the following communication from Mr. Wilkinson: “In response to the request of a large and representative meeting asking me again to contest the Egmont seat, I beg to advise that I accede to the request and will go to ithe poll as an Independent candidate. If returned, I will, as in the past, do all possible to- promote the interest of the district and New Zealand as a whole.” Following the denial made toy the L|a’bour Representation Committee that Mr. J. Ross would be the Labour candidate for the Egmont seat, it is now stated that the name of Mr. T. E. Trask, a local farmer, borough councillor, and president of the local branch of the Labour Party, will be sent forward to the. Labour Party selection committee for endorsement.
