WATERSIDE DISPUTE

CHARGE MADE IN COURT BREACH OF AWARD (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Charged by the New Zealand Waterside Employers* Association with a breach of the waterside workers' award, J. A. Dooley appeared before Mr. J. 11. Luxford, S.M., today. The case will probably determine the liability of 75 other workers concerned in incidents on the Port Campbell at Wellington on January 25. Mr. Stevenson, who appeared for the employers’ association, stated that the action was one for a penalty, because of a breach of clause 47A of the award. The proceedings were taken to preserve the sanctity of the award and to enforce it, because no discipline would otherwise be possible. Dooley was a job delegate, arid the case would be taken as a test case. Evidence is being heard.
