Pies Willi Sydney Howard
MISS Carr-Glyn and her mother be- ” came friendly with the well-known Yorkshire comedian, Sydney Howard. Mrs. Glyn baked an apple pie for him once, and after that, although he lived in a Park Lane suite, he would frequently say to her, “Has your another baked another pic, lassie’ and invite them up. with home-made pie, for a feast. Another comedian with whom she
became friendly enough to argue with was George Robey.
Robey, she said, had a passionate hatred of Irishmen. One day, when he was preparing to go on the stage, he discovered that his dresser had been temporarily replaced by an Irish lad. The poor youth said to him, “Will you be after using this old hat hangin’ up here?” George Robey jumped up as though shot and rushed from the room blaspheming the Irishman. He insisted on the youth being put out.
