MURDER ALLEGATION
OUTRAGE AT NEWCASTLE
(Reed. March 16, 1.30 pan.) NEWCASTLE, March 16
Leonard William Roberts was committed for trial on a charge of murder in connection with the death of Dorothy May Everett, who was found strangled in the Broughton House School grounds last November.
A message sent from Sydney on November 28 stated that the police at Newcastle had reported a particularly fiendish crime.
The body of Dorothy May Everett, aged 28, a maid employed at the Broughton Church of England Boys’ School, was discovered in the schoolground the previous morning. The young woman had been shockingly illtreated, and, finally, strangled with a silk stocking. Her clothing was ripped to shreds. At the inquest evidence was given by Leonard Roberts, employed as houseman at the school, who was the first person to discover and identify the girl’s body. The coroner returned a verdict that the girl had been murdered by a person or persons unknown.
