Communication by telephone and telegraph between Gisborne and southern districts was cut off to-day for just over three hours, the trouble occurring a short distance on the Gisborne side of Napier. The lines were restored to working order about 2.15 p.m., but no advice was received by the Gisborne telegraph office as to the cause of the break apart from the fact that all wires were "earthing.”
