YOUNG FARMERS
TOLAGA BAY CLUB VARIED ADDRESSES (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Tolaga Bay Young Farmers’'Club was held in the Tolaga Bay School on Tuesday evening, Mr. T. Post presiding. There was a good attendance, in* eluding the president, Mr. H. R. Irving, the district chairman of the Young Farmers’ Clubs, Mr. K. Cooper, Mr. E. M. Bates, instructor in agriculture, Gisborne, Mr. F. W. Shelton and Mr. A. Johnston.
Sympathetic reference was made to the loss sustained by an honorary member, Mr. J. P. Guthrie, in the death of Mrs. Guthrie, and all present stood in silence.
A lantern slide lecture dealing with insect pests was given by Mr. Cooper, who afterwards made several useful suggestions on general matters connected with the club.
The members were keenly interested in the projected camping tour, which would provide -an opportunity for the young farmers from all districts to visit the various centres.
An interesting address on the selection of the herd sire in pig-breeding was given by one of the club members, Mr. D. Jones.
Mr. Bates spoke of the different diseases which attacked maize, and demonstrated his address with lantern slides.
Tiie speakers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was decided to hold a committee meeting on Thursday, March 23, to discuss the arrangements for a dance to mark the end of the club year.
