PARTY FOR BRIDE-ELECT (Herald Correspondent.) Mrs. M. T. Harris, Tc Puia Springs, was the hostess at a very jolly tennis party on Tuesday afternoon in honour of Miss Nance Brodie, this week’s' popular bride. Many enjoyable sets of tennis were played on the hotel court and the guests were seated On the grassy terrace overlooking the play. A sumptuous afternoon tea was dispensed in the lounge, which was gaily decorated with large .bowls of blue and green hydrangeas and bowls of golden gleam nasturtiums. At the conclusion of tennis, many of the guests had a dip in the tepid swimming bath, while others strolled in the gardens. Other guests journeyed from Tokomaru Bay to join the party for dinner. Mr. S. ' Mac William proposed the health of the guest Of honour, and Mr. D. Bourke replied on her behalf. In the evening the guests all motored to Tokomaru Bay to the talkies. Those present were Mesdames M. T. Harris, G. Eivers, G. Busby, C. T. Jeiferd, N. Oates and E. C. Grant; Misses N. Brodie, C. Oates, E. Oates, K. Beale, D. Pepper, B. Eivers, N. Hill, J. Mitchell, J. Doig, D. Conole, P. Bourke (Wellington), I. Cornish, Mackerith, Turnbull, Hansen, Robinson, J. Busby, O’Meara and M. Corbett; Messrs. G. Eivers, R. Eivers, D. Bourke (Wellington), C. Gallagher (Wellington), D. V. Cullinane, S. MacWilliam, A. Fraser, W. Horton, J. Corbett and li. Smith.
. Messrs. C. Gallagher and D. Bourke, Wellington, who have been the guests of Mr. R. Eivers, Makomako station, returned south to-day.
The Director-General Of Health. Dr. M. H. Watt, who paid a visit to Wairoa and the Coast recently, has advised that the Department of Health will carry out at an early date an inspection of native houses in the Wairoa district. At the forthcoming annual meeting of the Wairoa Rugby Sub-union, members will be asked to give special consideration to the following notices of motion:—By Mr. R. W. Goodley:
“That this sub-union consider playing under a district scheme, having four teams.” By Mr. P. Bates: “That all games be played on the Lambton Square, North’ Clyde, and Nuhaka grounds.” At a meeting of the management committee on Tuesday th'ose present were Messrs. F. H. Mardon, chairman, R. W. Goodley, W. G. Brownlie, P. Bates, R. M. McDonald, B. Parkinson, L. Gay and C. F. Stone, secretary. All arrangements were made for the annual meeting. Mr. W. J. Clark, Rotorua, a former business man of Wairoa, is visiting the town.—Miss W. Hall, Ohinemutu, who spent part of her holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Ormond, Mahia, has returned home. —Mr. T. D. Cochrane, Otorohanga, who has been transferred to the Wairoa Post and Telegraph office, arrived in Wairoa to-day.—Messrs. R. J. Powdrell, W. Powdrell and A. Winter left yesterday for Wellington to join up with the Wanganella en route to Australia.
