(Special to tlio Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day

'The seriousness oil #Jhe farmers’ position in the drought-stricken areas of Otago was stressed at a meeting of tile Otago provincial council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday, when it was decided that the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, should be asked to inspect the districts for himself, and that the Government should be requested to grant to farmers free railage of stock to the grazing lands of Canterbury. The need for assistance was shown in ,a statement by one member that even If rain did arrive it would be too late to assist in providing winter feed, as already two frosts had been experienced in Central Otago.
