Mr. C. N. Haslam, former senior inspector of schools for Taranaki, has left New Plymouth for Christchurch, where he will spend his retirement.
The appointment of Mr. R. J. Avery, of the Wellington City Council Traffic Department, as chief traffic inspector to the Dunedin City Council has been confirmed.
Captain A. G. Hardy, who has been acting as stevedore for Hooker Bros., New Plymouth, has been appointed manager of the New Plymouth waterside bureau and central pay office.
The appointment of Dr. E. L. Fitzgerald, of Brunnerton, West Coast, to .he position of medical superintendent of the Auckland Infirmary, Epsom, was made by the Auckland Hospital Board at a meeting yesterday, states a Press Association message. Mr. F. Ramsbottom, Mayor of Patea, has been appointed one of two delegates to represent New Zealand at the international conference of Druids to be held at Hull in July. Mr. Ramsbottom has been a Druid for 36 years, more than eight years of which have been spent as a Grand Lodge officer
Mr. John Dewar, who recently retired from the position of SurveyorGeneral of the Federated Malay States, was honoured by having a C.B.E. conferred on him in the New Year honours’ list, in recognition ol his long and responsible service in control of the survey branch of the Federated Malay States Civil Service Though born in Alexandra, Mr. Dewar received his education at the Roxburgh School. For a considerable time he was one of the survey party which onened up the King Country. In 1906,'at the age of 22, he was appointed to the position of assistant surveyor to the Federated Malay States Government. There he rose steadily in his profession until ultimately he became Surveyor-General.
Constable J. O’Callaghan, Tokomaru Bay, has received notice of his promotion to the rank of acting-sergeant and his transfer to Wellington for a six months’ probationary term. Constable O’Callaghan joined the force in Auckland and was transferred to Gisborne, where he served for a period before being moved to Tokomaru Bay under the sergeant at that station. Since the station on the Coast was altered to a single man station, Constable O’Callaghan has been, in charge of that district. He has been at Tokomaru Bay for the past four years and became well liked by the v residents of the township. No advice has been, received yet as to who will fill his present position.
