CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

GISBORNE BRANCH QUARTERLY MEETING SEVERAL NEW MEMBERS The quarterly meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon in the Borough Council chambers. Those present were Messrs. James Chrisp, chairman, R. W. J.'Edwards, H. H. DeCosta, J. O. Musgrave, H. W. T. Buckley, M. J. White, T. E. Toneycliffe, B. S. Bree, J. C. Graham, R. P. Baigent, S. T. Gray, F. Tolerton, H. F. Forster, P. Fischbach, and L. T. Burnard. Apologies for absence were received fram Messrs. T. Corson, L. Miles, C. W. Muir, M. F. Robinson, and F. Wise. A report on the address of Mr. W. R. Fee, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, to a recent luncheon gathering of the chamber was given by the chairman. He said he would like the president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Lunn, to pay Gisborne a visit at a later date.

The resignation of Mr. M. B. Peat, owing to his departure from Gisborne, was received with regret. A welcome was extended to Mr. Fischbach, a new member. The following new members were elected: Messrs. J. K. Popple, E. W. Forrest, J. A. Cyril Fleming, P. Fishbach, P. C. Elliott, S. L. Dryland, O. S. Burt, C. E. Brown, James Blair, S. V. Beaufoy, G. Bradley Smith, R. Orchison, and L. S. Sarton.

The chairman expressed the thanks of the chamber to Mr. DeCosta for introducing. 10 new members. The date of the next meeting was fixed for April 12. Advice was received from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce that Miss Wilkinson had been awarded a diploma.

A request was received from the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce asking for particulars in regard to the rates charged for the commercial electrical services in Gisborne. —The secretary reported that he had supplied the necessary information.
