The reading of a letter from, the staff picnic committee, at today’s meeting of the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board, thanking the board for facilitating the organisation of the annual picnic, held recently at Waihirere Domain, gave rise to humourous comment on the part of a member of the board, Mr. C. W. Izod. The managing-secretary, Mr. R. P. Baigent, had reported generally on the picnic, the highlight of the athletic programme, he mentioned, being the race for members of the board, this being won in classic style by the chairman, Mr. F.'R. Ball. Mr. Izod, who was runner-up to Mr. Ball in the event, suggested that the form shown by the winner might have been of interest to the Empire Games selectors.
