THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast The recent anticyclone is moving eastward off the Dominion and a rather vigorous depression is approaching across the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for northerly to northwesterly winds, moderate to strong generally, and rising at times to gale force in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. A change to southerlies is probable in the southern portion of the South Island. Seas in New Zealand waters will be rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, and rising generally south of Cape Egmont, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman there will he moderate to strong northerly winds, but a change to southerlies is advancing from the west on to the central and southern portions. Seas will be rough in the central and southern portions, and moderate in the northern. The weather will be fair to line generally at first, but will become unsettled in the western and southern portions of the South Island, with rain developing and extending gradually northwards over districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures will be warm. To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported throughout the North Island this morning. Light to fresh north-westerly breezes were general. The barometer showed little movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 6(i degrees, Tauranga 72, Opotiki and East Cape (17, Gisborne (59, Napier and Wellington 08.

Rough seas were reported at Cape Palliser; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Midday Forecast General inference. —An Intense anticyclone covers south-eastern Australia and extends on fo the South Tasman Sea. Pressure is high also over the Dominion. A depression is, i.r>,vnvr>r, located over the north-west Tasman.
