EXCURSION TO MOTU

GISBORNE SCHOOL OUTING INSTRUCTION IN THE BUSH A special train from Gisborne this morning carried a party of about 220 pupils of the Gisborne Central School on an excursion to the Motu Bush. The trip was organised with a view to affording the children outdoor lessons in some of the remaining native bush readily accessable to Gisborne. The train was dispatched at 8.10 a.m., and the stationmaster in charge at Gisborne, Mr. J. W. Fergie, reported that the school committee and masters in charge had made excellent arrangements for the outing. Motuhora was reached in good time at 11.30 o'clock.

From there the party proceeded to Mr. F. W. Peddle's bush close by for lunch, Mr. Peddle kindly co-operating and providing hot water. Fine weather continued until 12.30 p.m., when (the children were Exploring the bush. Although the weather was rather threatening, it was hoped that the rain would keep off. Under the direction of the masters the children received instructive information regarding the New Zealand flora and bush conditions. The train is due back in Gisborne about 5 o'clock this evening.
